Appeals and Complaints Policy

  1. Introduction

The Pakistan Journal of Pathology upholds fairness and transparency in its editorial processes. This policy details the procedures for authors, reviewers, and readers to submit appeals or complaints concerning editorial decisions or journal procedures.

Pak J Pathol considers a complaint valid when it pertains to a potential procedural failure—such as excessive delays or unprofessional conduct—rather than a mere disagreement with an editorial decision or published content. Complaints should relate to matters under the editorial department’s purview, including issues with content quality or editorial processes.

  1. Types of Appeals and Complaints

2.1 Appeals: Appeals involve formally requesting a review of an editorial decision, typically due to perceived issues with the fairness, impartiality, or correctness of the evaluation process.

2.2 Complaints: Complaints refer to formal expressions of dissatisfaction regarding any element of the editorial process, encompassing ethical issues, conflicts of interest, or alleged biases, among other concerns.

  1. Submission of Appeals and Complaints

3.1 Author Appeals: Authors may appeal editorial decisions or raise concerns regarding the review process. Such appeals should be submitted promptly following the receipt of the decision.

3.2 Reviewer Appeals: Reviewers can challenge decisions involving their role in peer review if they identify concerns about procedural fairness or the rationale behind the outcome.

3.3 Reader Complaints: Readers may submit complaints regarding published content, ethical concerns, or any perceived violation of editorial standards.

  1. Procedures for Submission

Complaints should be made by sending an email to the following email addresses: pakjpath@gmail.com.

Every effort will be undertaken to provide a conclusive response within two weeks. If a definitive resolution is not feasible within this timeframe, an interim update will be issued within two weeks. Interim updates will continue to be communicated until the complaint is fully resolved.

4.1 Author and Reviewer Appeals: Appeals must be submitted in written form to the editorial office, detailing the rationale for the appeal and including any relevant supporting materials. The editorial board will evaluate the appeal and respond within an appropriate timeframe.

4.2 Reader Complaints: Complaints should be submitted in writing via email to pakjpath@gmail.com, specifying the nature of the complaint and providing any relevant details or evidence.

The complaint will be reviewed by the editorial board, and a response will be provided within a reasonable timeframe.

  1. Confidentiality and Impartiality

All appeals and complaints will be addressed with strict confidentiality to guarantee fair and objective resolution. Details pertaining to such matters will be disclosed solely to individuals directly involved in the adjudication process.

  1. Appeal and Complaint Resolution

6.1      Editorial Board Review: The editorial board will evaluate all appeals and complaints, potentially consulting relevant stakeholders for further insight. A formal written response will be issued, detailing the review's conclusions and any subsequent measures implemented.
